Interpretation

First, tell you the true meaning of each step. Remember, Patanjali, the ancestor of yoga, says that they are both steps and subjects, both of which are.

They are steps because there must be one step followed by another, which is a growing order. However, they are not just steps, they are the backbone of the whole yoga.
They have an intrinsic integration and an organic integration, that is, the subject.

For example, my hands, feet, and hearts, they do not work separately, they are not separated, and they are an organic unity. If the heart stops, the hand cannot move.
Everything is connected together. They are not like the crosspiece of a ladder, and each rung of the ladder is separated; if one step breaks, the entire ladder does not break.

Therefore, Patanjali said that they are steps because they have a certain order of growth. But they are also the main limbs of the body, they are organic. You can't drop any of them. You can throw away the steps, but you can't lose the subject.
You can skip two steps at a time, or you can drop one step, but the main limbs cannot be discarded, they are not mechanical, you can't disassemble them, they build you. They belong to the whole, they are not separate. The whole works through their harmony.

Therefore, the eight branches of yoga are steps, giving you a concept, knowing which step to go to the next step, and having a deep relationship with each other. The second step cannot jump to the first one.

The first step must be the first step, and the second step must be the second step. The eighth step must be the eighth step and cannot be moved to the fourth step or the first step. Therefore, they are both sequential and organic integrations.
